Deliver More

We are all in positions were we are able to give more. If it is in retail, food industry, sales, or even corporate America we all can give you more than what is expected. This can be for the customers, guests, employees, and employers. Using a Pay it Forward philosophy will pay off in the long run. We may not see the return instantaneously or we may never see it at all. Delivering more than expected in a retail environment might get you repeat business from your clients, it may get you referral business for those customers, and it may not lead to anything at all. It does not take much from you to deliver more. It can be a genuine smile, a little extra care in delivering a package, or understanding the needs of the individuals and delivering the solution to their problems. Deliver More and you will be surprised at what will be given in return!!

Goal Setting

Why should we goal set? I am sure this is a thought we have all had. I know I used to have these thoughts. Then I learned the importance and the Power of Goal Setting!! We all know a goal without a date is just a dream. Dreaming is good very good we all used to do this when we were kids. Why did we stop? Is it because we got older? Whatever the case may be it is very important to dream. But lets takes these dreams a step further and make them a goal. Lets put a date to the vacation that we always wanted to go on, buy the second home, car, or college savings fund. What is the best way to do this? There are several techniques out there and you may be using one that works for you. I wont go into great details on mine but I will say the most important aspect of goal setting is setting a date!! Now this date has to be realistic, for instance, if you want to go on a vacation that will cost you 10,000 dollars and you want to go tomorrow. If you don't have 10,000 dollars and the time to go tomorrow then this is not a realistic goal. But least say you do want to go on a vacation that cost 10,000 dollars, lets work backwards to figure out when is a realistic date in which we can go. This 10,000 dollar vacation will enable us to go on a cruise for about 10 days. We can then look at our current budget and find out how much extra we have each month or what we can cut out to set aside "X" amount of dollars for our vacation. Lets say we can put aside 500 dollars a month towards our vacation. simple math tells us this will take 20 months to complete this task. So we can write down that by the year 2010 we will go on a cruise that cost 10,000 dollars. Now this is where the power begins, once you write down you goal, with the date, your subconscious mind goes into action. This part of the brain works all the time, when you are sleeping and when you are awake. Your subconscious will start to devise a plan to get your conscious body to your goal, it will come up with plans to get you to where you want to be. In our case, the 10,000 dollar vacation, our mind will not only help us have the discipline to help save the money and in some cases it will create a plan to help us make more money for our goal. Don't just think that goal setting deals with financial matters or tangible objects, goal setting will also help you with intangible objects as well. So set the dates and let your subconscious mind start working for you!!

Dont Give Up

Keep going and keep trying. Life is about failing, getting up, and going at it again. Life is like football, you have the offense whose whole purpose is to score a touchdown. Then we have the defense whose whole purpose is to stop the offense from scoring. We are the offense trying to reach our goals and our problems, obstacles, and situations are the defense preventing us from reaching our goals. If we look at football; every snap of the ball the offense intends to score a touchdown, most of the time they don't. But, does the team give up and quit? No, they don't they have at least three more tries to get there. Of course football is a bit more complicated then this analogy but the simple point is this: if you don't score on the first try or hit an unexpected obstacles, don't give up keep going. Get up, dust yourself off, try another play or tactic to get around the obsticles, and eventually you will score!

Sharks dont Bite!

In life we may come across successful people that we want to talk to in order to get some tidbits of information from them. But we don't, why? Is it because we are afraid they will say no, or afraid they will say yes? Either way don't be afraid, successful people don't bite, in fact they do the opposite. They embrace and share. One thing I have learned is that successful people love to share, they love to share ideas and tell people how they got to point B from point A. If you have been itching to ask someone a question and just to afraid, don't be speak up. Successful people don't bite!!!

Leave it on the Field

We have all heard the football analogy of leaving it on the field. This is where a player will give it his all for the game, win or lose. If he wins then he was the better player, he loses then he was not the better player. But he did give it his all and did his best, he just did not win. In life we can take the same approach to all that we do. The morning meeting, the council with clients, the sales call, or a night out with spouse or loved one. By giving it your all and committing to the process you can not be upset with yourself for failing. You did not fail, you were just not the better player. Your day will come. Give it your all, leave it on the field, board room table, or sales office.

Run Your Race

Life is a big track meet. We race against each other, we race against ourselves, and we race against the clock. When running in the race of life we must remember to run our race and not look who is running next to us. We will, at times, look at who is running next to us and see what they have, cars, houses, 401K's, jobs, families, etc. and try to catch up with them. Instead of looking at what we have and concentrating on our race. We only have one life to live and just one time on this earth. We must run the race against ourselves and focus on the direction in which we want to go. Not runners next to us or the direction in which they are going. So get up, stretch, and run the best race that you can, you only have one to run!!

Managing the Clock

As basketball season comes to an end we all hear how announcers mention the other team managing the clock. In sports this is smart play, keeping the ball out of the opponents hands will prevent them from scoring. In life how can we manage our own clocks? There are several techniques and methods that work, the key is finding one that works for you. I have been using the technique that I am about to share with you for years, you are more than welcomed to use it yourself and customize it if needed.

I call my technique the Yearly, Monthly, Weekly, Daily tasks method.

At the beginning of every year I open my calendar and and fill in all the dates in which I know an event will take place, Birthdays, Party's, Holidays, Special Events, and sporting events. Then at the beginning of every month I will do something similar this time I will add events that have just came up, like church functions, school events, or parties that are recently planned. The third step is to look at the calendar on a weekly basis, here I will write in the dates and times for appointments with clients, doctor visits, meetings with colleagues or bosses. Then finally at the end of each night I would look at the tasks that I was unable to complete for that day and fill them in for the next day. Making sure tasks that are urgent get placed on my calendar in the earliest part of the day.

This is a simple technique that works for me, it may work for you it may not. If you need help with a system let me know I can help you put one together.

Visualization

See before it happens!!

The mind is so powerful that it will let you see the future! Yes you can control and dictate the future. By using your mind and visualizing what you want to achieve the mind will work backwards to help you get to what you want. By taking the time to sit back and visualize what you want and seeing yourself doing successful tasks you will be more successful. Emmit Smith talked about how he would visualize himself running over Line Backers and defensive backs before every game, he saw himself scoring touchdowns. Guess what happened? He scored those touchdowns and he ran over the defense. Yes it did not happen all the time but it happened more often than not. Making Emmit Smith one of the most successful running backs of all time.

So see in your minds eye what you want to happen in life and you will be closer to achieving your vision.

The power of the Network

The greatest gift that we have is the ability to network! We all have the ability to shake some one's hand and ask if they are, or someone they know, are in the market for XYZ, with XYZ being anything from a product or a person. Reaching out and asking is the key. The worst thing that can happen if we ask is that they so NO! But what would they say if we don't ask? At least we increase the odds and provide us a 50/50 chance of a YES!!! But what if they say no? that is when the power of the network takes over, simply say "I understand that you are not interested in XYZ, do you happen to know anyone that might be interested?" Increasing your opportunities for success even more so!

Jumping in!

The water of life is cold. The best way to get through the coldness is to jump right in! Some may inch themselves in slowly to avoid the inevitable but the fact remains the same... the water is COLD!!! You could prolong the obvious but that just lengthens the pain. So don't inch your way into the water of life JUMP IN!! Make a splash and enjoy the pain you thought you would feel is nothing compared to the exhilaration of the accomplishment!
